How our curriculum evolved during the pandemic…

My Money workshop has been focusing on evolving our financial literacy curriculum to fit the needs of a growing and diverse population. We have incorporated FDIC content and other national financial literacy best practices. Plus, our presentations now have a new look and feel. So when the Pandemic hit, we were beyond prepared for a virtual solution.

As the Pandemic continued, we had several challenges ahead of us. First, our instructors would not be able to see the participants as they had before. Second, we ran the risk of losing some of the participants if they were not engaged on screen. Most of our low-income adult participants also had little experience, for the most part, with online learning. We knew the learning curve would be a challenge. We even knew that the screen would have to become the new ‘workbook.’ Participants had to engage with the content on the screen beyond listening to the instructor to speak. Our curriculum has had to evolve, as well.

Our staff and volunteer instructors have made the best of this challenging situation. They use videos, the chatbox, and polls to encourage the participants to ask questions. The instructors track whether the students are absorbing the lessons in multiple ways. If our virtual Financial Jeopardy! Game is anything to go by we know the students are getting it!
We don’t know where this Pandemic will lead us. With your help, though, My Money Workshop is prepared to meet this challenge head-on.

Your donation today will help more people get the tools and skills they need to deal with these tough times.
